Si è aperto oggi, nella sede dell’Accademia di Polizia de Il Cairo, il processo all’ex presidente deposto Mohammed Morsi e ad altre 14 figure di spicco dei Fratelli Musulmani.
L'accusa fa riferimento agli eventi del 5 dicembre 2012 quando 12 persone sono state uccise negli scontri davanti al palazzo presidenziale scoppiati dopo l'emanazione della dichiarazione costituzionale con la quale Morsi si era appropriato di ulteriori poteri esecutivi. Morsi è stato detenuto in un luogo segreto da quando è stato deposto da un colpo di stato militare il 3 luglio scorso.
L'udienza è stata però sospesa subito dopo il suo avvio e il processo aggiornato all'8 gennaio 2014.

La vigilia dell’apertura del processo è stata segnata dalla visita in Egitto del Segretario di Stato americano John Kerry, la prima dalla destituzione del presidente islamista e dalla decisione dell’amministrazione di Washington di sospendere parte degli aiuti militari a Il Cairo.

On Sunday, Kerry met with Egypt's interim President Adly Mansour and Minister of Defense General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and stressed the leaders should stick to their "road map" for restoring democracy.
